NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance mission captured thrilling footage of its rover landing in Mars' Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021. The real footage in this video was captured by several cameras that are part of the rover's entry, descent, and landing suite. The views include a camera looking down from the spacecraft's descent stage (a kind of rocket-powered jet pack that helps fly the rover to its landing site), a camera on the rover looking up at the descent stage, a camera on the top of the aeroshell (a capsule protecting the rover) looking up at that parachute, and a camera on the bottom of the rover looking down at the Martian surface.
The audio embedded in the video comes from the mission control call-outs during entry, descent, and landing.

That's amazing, I would not have expected that this sort of video capability was possible. I wonder what the data rate was to send that video back? Was it either an exponential increase in transfer speeds, or just really amazing compression?
Steve Adams
The video wasn’t real-time. The rover recorded the various EDL videos and then downloaded them a day or two after the landing. JPL then merged these videos with the Mission Control commentators to make this video. The rover sends/receives most of its data to/from orbiters around Mars. These orbiters then relay the data to Earth where it is received by the Deep Space Network (DSN). The data rates vary, somewhere between a few hundred kilobits per second, up to 1-2 megabits per second.

@Oelkers Account Considering the people in the room helped engineer and build the rover, the idea they are willingly lying about their life's work is ludicrous.
Oelkers Account
I'm honestly not sure if you're right or wrong. What is troubling to me is to wonder - would anyone in that control room know if it was a simulation or real themselves?

Cannot imagine if blue origin, space X and NASA work together prepare to send human to mars (example: space X focus on transportation, blue origin focus on supply and technicality like drone etc, NASA focus on infrastructure).

what about the moon? when are we going there?
SP
Already went many times. It’s not as interesting as Mars.

I'm uncertain if interplanetary exploration would yield any greater results than manned space stations would to promote a living environment. Exploration is great to research or interplanetary existences, history, life potential, but Mars seemingly habitation is at least a generation away. Interplanetary exploration is like learning to run before walking, but hey, it's still exciting to see.

This is false there is no air on Mars to parasuit working
Mike P
Only false thing is your claim. Air is a mixture of gases. Mars atmosphere is thin but it also contains gases that makes it possible to use parachute.
Steve Adams
You are wrong. Mars has an atmosphere that is about 1% of Earth’s. Substantial enough for a parachute to bleed off some velocity, but not enough to land safely. That is why the sky crane is needed.
Ricardo Pereira de Azevedo
If here on Earth, with everything we have, it's hard to be happy, imagine in Mars, the planet Desert! Is this scientific research, or are you planning to flee Earth? What are you afraid of? ( The Earth is the Titanic, do you occupy the few boats that remain? )
Atlantis
It's for scientific research and exploration. As for Earth, it's not hard to be happy (well for me anyway).

The Inverse Square Law of light simply and easily proves that the moon, planets and the stars are close and if they were as the brightest that we observe them on their surface “if it was possible to stand upon” they would be many magnitudes brighter then the sun.
Just do the math.
Joe Nolan
No they wouldn't, you did the math wrong. I'm guessing you are one of those idiots that thinks you are supposed to "square" every number lol.
